Mai Chau Valley Viewpoint is one of the places most visitors to Mai Chau make time for. A flat green valley of Thai stilt villages three hours from Hanoi — the easiest overnight escape from the city.
Before you go: Best in the hour after sunrise, when mist still sits on the valley floor. A motorbike taxi from Lac takes about ten minutes.
