Perfume River is one of the places most visitors to Hue make time for. Vietnam's imperial capital from 1802 to 1945, with a walled citadel, seven royal tombs along the river and the country's most distinctive regional cooking.
Before you go: Agree the route, the stops and the price before boarding — trips are often sold as a full day but return by lunchtime. Late afternoon on the water is the best light in the city.
