Five limestone and marble outcrops rising from the flat coastal plain south of the city, riddled with caves that have held Buddhist and Hindu shrines for centuries. The largest, Thuy Son, has stairs, a lift, pagodas and a summit viewpoint over the entire beach.

Marble Mountains is one of the places most visitors to Da Nang make time for. Central Vietnam's gateway city: thirty kilometres of beach, a mountain pass at each end, and the only international airport between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Before you go: There is a lift to the first level and steps thereafter; the caves are uneven and dim, so bring a phone torch. Best early, before the heat builds inside the rock.
