Ma Pi Leng Pass
The highest and most spectacular section of the loop, a cliff-cut road between Dong Van and Meo Vac carved by hand in the late 1950s. The Nho Que river runs in a narrow jade gorge far below, and the viewpoints along the top are the defining image of northern Vietnam.

Ma Pi Leng Pass is one of the places most visitors to Ha Giang make time for. The northernmost province in Vietnam, and the country's best road trip: three or four days of limestone plateau, hairpin passes and border villages.
Before you go: Ride it in the morning, before the afternoon haze. There is a walking path — the Skywalk — cut into the cliff below the road for a closer view of the gorge.
