The jade-green river at the bottom of the Ma Pi Leng gorge. Small boats run upstream from a landing below the pass into the Tu San canyon, where the walls close to a slot barely wider than the boat and rise several hundred metres on both sides.
Nho Que River is one of the places most visitors to Ha Giang make time for. The northernmost province in Vietnam, and the country's best road trip: three or four days of limestone plateau, hairpin passes and border villages.
Before you go: The road down to the landing is steep and rough; a shuttle runs from the top for those not confident riding it. The boat trip is an estimated 100,000-150,000 VND per person and runs on demand.
